Give what you can, take what you need!
The Little Free Pantry at EMK has opened, and it is free for all.
It is located at 152 Arlington Street.
Step 1: Identify a location.
You will need to ask the owner or manager in charge of the property for permission to set up a free pantry. The great thing about Little Free Pantries is that they do not require electricity!
Step 2: Build your pantry.
You can use a metal cabinet, locker, or other cabinet for your pantry. We turned a Little Free Library that was not in use into a pantry. Make sure your cabinet is off of the ground to prevent critters from munching on the food. Make sure to add signage so that the community knows what the structure is and how it works.
Step 3: Purchase or collect starter food.
Either purchase starter food or run a food drive in your community or at your organization in order in order to start the pantry.
Step 4: Announce the LFP to your community.
We handed out flyers at the MGB Mobile Food Market so that people in our community that needed food knew about the new resource. We also posted about the pantry on our Instagram account.
Step 5: Maintain the pantry.
We check on our pantry twice a week to ensure there is no expired or opened food. We also make sure the structure is still secure and undamaged.
